Summary

Despite the growing burden of the cvd, little is known about the incidence of recurrent event in established cvd patients. There is lack of longitudinal study reporting medium-term and long-term outcomes and the trends of risk factors, concomitant cvd events, clinical characteristics, and determinant of recurrent cvd events representing the cad population from southeast asia, particularly indonesia8. Most of the prospective studies were mainly from western and welldeveloped countries,9–11 thus may not be truly representative of the cad population in many countries such as indonesia. The secondary prevention and determinants of major adverse cardiovascular events in coronary artery disease patients (pienter study) is designed to evaluate the incidence of recurrent events and concomitant cardiovascular diseases. This study offers valuable insights into the risk factors and determinants contributing to cvd progression in individuals with established coronary artery disease in indonesia. The pienter study is a single-center prospective study that follow a cohort of established cad participants. The primary objective of the study is to estimate the frequency of recurrent fatal and non-fatal cardiovascular incidents, along with other concomitant vascular disease in patients with manifested cad. Secondary objective of this study is to initiate and establish a longitudinal database for assessing changes in risk factors among this high-risk population and further assess the compliance to the national cvd prevention and treatment guideline in the routine clinical practices. In addition, the study planned to maintain a biobank of specimens that hold potential for subsequent investigations related to cvd. The proposed study will be conducted at the makassar cardiac center (mcc) at the wahidin sudirohusodo hospital, makassar. Enrolled patients will be interviewed, measured and tested at baseline, and 3 followed-up periods during the course of the study.

Summary

The PIENTER study is based on addressing the several strategic issues that have been identified in the two department, (1) Department of cardiology and vascular medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Hasanuddin Univeristy, and (2) Faculty of Public Health, Hasanuddin university. These strategic issues include: (a) The understanding of cardiovascular pathogenesis and risk factors, and (b) Prediction and prevention of cardiovascular disease. (c) Promotive and preventive aspect for reducing the burden of disease in the population, and (d) Identification and evaluation of risk factors, and intervention on health behavior, environmental health and occupational hazard. The proposed study will be conducted in collaboration with external researchers as international partners from University Medical Center Utrecht (UMCU), Utrecht University, The Netherlands. During the course of the study, the international partner will provide scientific consultations, trainings, monitoring and supervision, advance data analysis, and writing manuscript for publications. Furthermore, international collaborator will also provide both material and nonmaterial support to ensure high-quality conduct of the research.
